J’ai appris ça sur le blog de Patrice Gabin : Seesmic ayant racheté Twhirl l’année dernière, la société, qui auparavant avait tout misé sur le blogging vidéo, a changé de stratégie et sorti un Twhirl amélioré qui se nomme Seesmic Desktop.
Twhirl devient Seesmic Desktop
Pour ceux qui sont déjà perdus, twhirl était une petite application, très pratique et très légère qui permettait d’utiliser son compte Twitter (définitions et tests ici), suivre les personnes de son réseau et poster des phrases très simplement. C’était un peu comme une sorte d’MSN, mais pour Twitter.
J’aimais beaucoup cette application, mais nous, utilisateurs, devons une fois de plus nous plier aux aléas des accords commerciaux et rachats en tous genres… et comme Seesmic Desktop (un peu long à écrire… va falloir lui trouver un surnom) à remplacer twhirl, qui ne sera donc plus mis à jour, j’ai décidé de tester son remplaçant.
- Première chose : application encore toute en anglais. Loïc Lemeur, c’est pas un français ? Oui, je sais, il est à San Francisco… Mais lorsqu’on est français et qu’on veut gagner du terrain sur le marché français, n’est-ce pas logique de penser à inclure une traduction française ?? Surtout pour le peu de choses qu’il y a à traduire dans cette application !
- Sinon, comme le dis très justement l’un de mes amis twitter : pas très beau, à première vue. Alors que j’appréciais twhirl pour son côté coloré et surtout un peu plus discret, Seesmic c’est : du gris, du triste et du “tout carré”… Pas de possibilité de personnalisation de l’interface, en tous cas, pas pour l’instant.
- Un peu trop volumineux à mon goût, cela prend un peu trop de place sur l’écran, mais il faut peut être que je m’habitue. C’est pourtant le genre d’outil que l’on aime omniprésent mais discret pour ne pas non plus nous distraire sans cesse..
- Je n’ai pas encore trouvé où l’on voit ses amis et ses followers. Pas d’onglets ou de page cachée… rien. Je crois que je n’ai pas la même version que celle qui a été testée sur presse-citron.
- Un point intéressant cependant, le côté multi plateforme et multi comptes : on peut se connecter à son compte twitter mais aussi à son compte facebook et/ou à d’autres comptes Twitter. Cela peut donc être intéressant pour ne pas avoir à se connecter à sa page facebook… cet aspect est encore en cours de tests. A voir si cela peut se substituer à son profil en ligne ou si ça ressemble plus à l’appli (light) sur iPhone…
Donc première impression légèrement décevante, on attend la suite. Seesmic va-t-il rajouter la fonctionnalité de (micro)blogging vidéo ? Cela peut être intéressant et mieux se démocratiser qu’en unique fonction de commentaires vidéo sur lse blogs. En tous cas, la volonté qu’avais Loïc Lemeur de fonder une communauté autour de son produit, sera peut être plus satisfaite avec un outil comme Seesmic Desktop qu’avec sa plateforme de vidéo blogging…

Comme le soulignait Patrice, le vidéo blogging est petit à petit abandonnée au profit de Seesmic Desktop et bientôt d’une version web je crois… Apparemment, la communauté seesmic vidéo vivote… enfin c’est ce que je constate en allant sur le site : http://video.seesmic.com
Ce serait à mon sens quand même dommage de ne pas garder ce produit… peut être était-il soit trop avangardiste soit tout simplement pas rentable en terme d’exploitation.
Je pense certainement que la vidéo arrivera sûrement sur le seesmic desktop… un peu à l’image d’MSN où l’on peut faire de la visioconférence.

Pour ma part, je continue à utiliser twhirl, notamment pour sa légereté.
Une piste pour une application multiplateformes communautaires, c’est Orsiso, que je trouve largement plus abouti et complet que seesmic desktop, et qui permet surtout de regrouper les différents profils de vos contacts en un seul, une sorte d’annuaire des reseaux sociaux.
